Welcome to APAIE 2024

Collaborating for sustainable impact: partnerships across the Asia Pacific

Oh behalf of the APAIE Advisory Council, I am pleased to extend a warm invitation to you to join us over 4-8 March 2024 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) in Perth, Western Australia for the annual APAIE Conference and Exhibition. I encourage you to extend your stay to explore this beautiful part of the world which conveniently shares a time zone with many in our region.

20 years ago APAIE was established with a gathering of 13 universities in Seoul, South Korea. Two years later the first conference and exhibition was launched for 400 delegates. We are now preparing to celebrate 20 years of APAIE with a 17th Conference and Exhibition for over 2,500 delegates. That is quite a journey!

Throughout the years the original purpose of APAIE has not changed from being a conduit to bring international educators together, both within the Asia Pacific and also to connect the region to the rest of the world. In more recent years we are pleased to add a focus on sustainability.

It is a privilege to be part of such a diverse region, with diverse cultures, histories, perspectives and experiences. It is an honour to be able to share some of this with you through the annual APAIE conference and exhibition, with a program to encourage mutual sharing of ideas under the theme, Collaborating for sustainable impact: partnerships across the Asia Pacific.

Along with the hosting team of all 5 Western Australian universities (Curtin University, The University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame Australia, and Edith Cowan University), I look forward to welcoming you to Perth for APAIE 2024.

Keynote Speaker

Mr Michael Wear
Mulgana Traditional Owner and Tidal Moon Managing Director, Tidal Moon, Australia

We are delighted to announce Mulgana Traditional Owner and Tidal Moon Managing Director, Mr Michael Wear, as the keynote speaker at the APAIE 2024 Opening Ceremony.

As custodian of Indigenous culture and champion for environmental protection and sustainability, Michael established a project to ensure a viable livelihood and way of life for future generations. A truly inspirational story, with an unexpected hero: the humble sea cucumber.

The Tidal Moon Sea Cucumbers Project is having significant impact not only on the lives of the Indigenous saltwater people, but the environment as well. Be sure to catch Michael at the Opening Ceremony.
