Welcome from APAIE President - Professor Sarah Todd

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to join me in Bangkok in March 2023 for the 16th APAIE Conference and Exhibition. As we gather in person for the first time as an APAIE community since 2019, it is hard to think of a more fitting backdrop for our conversations and discussions than the dynamic and rapidly evolving city of Bangkok. As we share ideas and focus on how we each contribute to ensuring a sustainable future for international education across the Asia Pacific, it will also be a time to reflect on what we have learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic, what we want to take forward and, just as importantly, what we should leave behind. Much has changed since we last met in person, from the way we partner and what we are seeking from our partnerships, the way we support students and what those students are demanding, through to how we recruit for, and deliver academic programs. The conference will offer a timely opportunity to develop a shared understanding of what is meant by a "sustainable future" and the role each of us can play in its development.
On behalf of the APAIE board and Mahidol University, I very much look forward to welcoming you to Bangkok. Thank you for your support of APAIE through the challenges of the past couple of years. Now is the time to turn our gaze to the future, and Bangkok, where the past and the contemporary sit alongside one another and the welcome is always warm, is the perfect place to meet and plan the way forward.
